Herb and Garlic Loaf

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).Gas mark 5
  2. Grease a loose bottom 20cm (8") cake tin
  3. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl
  4. Rub in the butter and stir in the remaining ingredients
  5. Divide the mixture into 6 even pieces
  6. Roll the pieces in balls and arrange five around the outside of the tin and one in the centre
  7. Brush with a little beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds
  8. Bake for 50mins until cooked through and golden brown
  9. Cool on a wire tray before cutting
  • 450g (1lb) Neill's Fine wholemeal flour
  • 1 level tbsp of baking powder
  • 1 level tsp salt
  • 75g (3oz) Butter
  • 50g (1oz) Grated mature cheddar cheese
  • 2 Garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 small onion peeled and grated
  • 2 tbsp of freshly chopped parsley
  • 284ml (1/2 pt) Milk
  • seasoning
  • 2 medium eggs
